LEARN AS YOU BUILD
This course is aimed at the first time builder and gently guides you through 1StopHosting's method of setting up a website. Learn as you build your website is the easiest and most practical way to learn with the benefit of a working website when you have finished your course. It is a well known fact, you are more likely to learn quicker using all your senses on this practical hands-on approach rather than just studying books. Doing both theory and practical together makes understanding the process easier. Once the basics are understood then you can progress to a higher level if you wish.
This course covers

OTHER COURSES
Ready Made Templates - The advantage and disadvantages.
Templates will cut the build time but at the expense of losing
the some of flexibility of purpose built sites tailored to the
precise needs.
Using Include files and internal templates - These can
save many hours and speed up the design process. Especially when
the website need changing or modifying. Changing the include or
DWT files automatically updates all the pages within seconds
whereas doing this manually would take hours or even days on a
large site. Given the example say an additional menu item
needs to be added, normally this would be on all pages. Changing
this by hand could easily introduce errors.
Html code - Whilst websites can be built without any
knowledge of the code behind the pages by using programs like
Microsoft FrontPage which hides the code but has the option of
viewing the code. There are many other similar programs. Fault
finding can be a lot easier if one has a knowledge of html code.
Some page builders use their own format which is converted to
html and/or swf (Flash Movie) on compiling so that they can be
displayed on any web browser. If you wish to see the code which
produces particular web page - just right click the webpage and
select view source and the html code will be displayed. You can
learn a lot from this but need a general knowledge of code to
understand.
MySQL standard for online data bases quite often used in
conjoining with PHP
PHP the page is built by the web server, the page code
includes <?php include ("_header.php"); ?> for an example. The
advantage this saves rewriting the same code for each page. It
ensures that the included part is the same on each page. Also
updating the "include" file updates all pages. The disadvantage
the page cannot be fully displayed offline since the page is
built on the server. There are many free PHP ready made off the
shelf scripts i.e., {bulletin boards, chat windows, etc)
available as well writing a special script to provide a special
function.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) As it's name implies is a style
sheet that controls the pages. Disadvantage needs a little bit
of planning to setup and discipline to use which is not a bad
thing. The greatest advantage, it keeps the styling in one
place and ensures consistent between pages and changing the CSS
changes all the pages without the hassle of editing each page
individually.
JAVA, PERL and other scripts and codes allows many special
effects within the page.
Other Subjects I will consider any other subject, fill in
the enquiry form and put the subject in the message box.
GROUP TUITION
A group workshop - is obviously cheaper than one to one since the costs are shared. Before each course we take into consideration each attendee's capabilities and objectives by sending out a questionnaire so that we can plan each course to achieve the maximum effectiveness. One of the disadvantage is everyone has to learn at the same rate and on the same project/subject.
Workshop courses can by run under class room conditions normally in a hired room. The numbers are kept low so that each individuals can receive some personal attention.
ONE TO ONE TUITION
One To One tuition
- has the obvious advantage that the course is designed to cover
the needs of one individual who dictates the speed and what is
to be learnt. One To One can be at your place or ours or can be
via the web, email, phone, VOIP or a combination all.
We are 100% flexible everything is designed around you and your
aims.
PERSONAL HELP or TUITION
This is mainly intended to solve a specific problem and can be on almost anything. It doesn't have to be a website that we created, control, host or even web related. It could be computer or a software problem. I have years of experience on electronic servicing and running different businesses. In most cases can be provided via the web, email, msn, voip (Voice Over Internet Protocol) or a mixture. For example we can both be viewing the problem online and at the same time speaking directly to you. I can remotely access the server and see just what is going on. This save both time and travelling making it very cost effective.
Can also be face to face (121). If the problem is setting up your computer to collect your emails for example, this may have to be done on your computer at your premises....
DIY services are provided at the lowest possible cost and are provided fully automated online, together with online help. Obviously if you paying for a DIY service then you cannot expect bespoke service. However, if you have made a reasonable attempt to help yourself, I will look into the problem if you send me an email with a full description of the problem and what you have done or how you have tried to resolve the problem.
There may be a charge for this service, depending if you are an existing client and on which services you are on. You will be advised of the costs before proceeding.
Email me outlining your requirement or problem
